The sub-zero temperatures that a good part of the US is experiencing can definitely keep us indoors. When the weather gets this cold, it isn’t safe or healthy to exercise outdoors. If you don’t have a membership to a gym or you don’t have any fitness equipment in your home, you may think you have a valid excuse to sit on the sofa all day and catch up with Netflix. Wrong!
Your home can be your gym, regardless of your fitness level. I know someone who lost 25 pounds and his workout routine was simply putting on headphones, listening to his favorite music or audiobook, and walking around the inside of his house for 30-45 minutes every day. You can alternate 1 minute of marching in place, with 30 seconds of jumping jacks or jumping rope. Do this at least 5 times. Throw in 2 sets of 12 squats, push-ups on the floor or on the wall, planks and/or crunches, and you have a decent workout. Much better than sitting on your butt all day! 🙂
Of course, DVD or video workouts are always a good indoor option. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, check out their selection of instant workout videos. Try something different such as Tai Chi or Budokon. In usually 30 minutes, you can complete a great workout.
If you have kids who are at home from school, get them involved in creating a fun fitness game. Kids love crawling like a bear and inching like a worm. You’ll be surprised how challenging this can be! Ignore the excuses, use your creativity, and just move!
